Chinese needlework has long history and came forth 3000 years ago. For transfer of past dynasties, its skills is improved gradually and much more ingenious progressively. Until now many minorities in China also keep the excellent tradition of needlework.

Recently, the improvement of needlework skills has exceeded anytime of the past. Folk artists embroider each kind of flowers, birds, mountains, water, characters and animals with needles and lines. They are lovely and vivid and abound in decoration. Modern needlework can be classified into two types of appreciative needlework and applied needlework. The needlework of minorities is passional and unrestrained with rich imagination, exquisite skills, smart arrangement and unique character.

Needlework of Miao nationality is typical one of them. It often takes self-produced black cloth as background and embroiders distinctive patterns of dragons, phoenixes, flowers, birds and geometrical figures. The color is not only rich, but also strongly contrastive. Its styles are often changeable after processing with intense folk feature.

Needlework cushions and bags provided here are typical works of applied needlework.
